We continue our journey to Mount Desert Island from Pulpit Harbor, stop in Stonington for some supplies and spend the night in Southwest Harbor and Bar Harbor.

Nice job with all the photography. As someone who has cruised for 20+ seasons and still owns a home on Penobscot Bay, there is no finer place to cruise. Many of the islands are open to the public and have excellent hiking trails and great anchorages.. The Taft "Maine Cruising Guide" is really a requirement and is very well written by some folks who spent decades sailing it themselves. For the record, we Mainers pronounce things wrong; most will call it "mount dessert" though you pronounced it the way it is spelled. Many of the French names of islands and towns are not pronounced in the way you would expect. The town of Calais is pronounced "callus" by the folks who live there for instance. I have thought the pronunciations may have been a way to retaliate against the French occupation of the area. The trip across the Gulf of Maine is not really difficult with some planning--an overnight sail or motoring in good weather and bypass Portland and Cape Elizabeth. The best Maine cruising is Penobscot and the environs. Have a line cutter on your shaft and radar is recommended. Do not rely on AIS--lobstermen do not use it. FWIW.
