Moving up but not moving out.

We’re moving up to a bigger boat but staying in the Ericson family. This weekend we took ownership of Flight Risk, a 1987 34-2. We have been looking for a bigger boat to replace our 30+ which is a bit small for our future plans. We visited a number of boats over the past year, including several Ericson 35’s, and a Tartan 37, and almost put an offer on a Gulfstar 39 which was an intriguing boat and our favorite, but too heavy for the light winds of the PNW and with a long list of major upgrades needed (it’s still available on Seattle CL as of this writing if anyone wants to see a really cool boat). The 34-2 checked most of the boxes, and after our shakedown trip today on our way to the new slip we are very happy with it and confident we made the right decision.

A PO did an extensive and thoughtful renovation of the boat in 2011 so there are lots of great systems in place that don’t need to be replaced. Unfortunately not much work has been done since then and the boat has a lot of deferred maintenance that will need attending to. Coming from our 30+ which is spotless and totally dialed in is a bit of a shock, but we’ll get this one sorted to our liking eventually.

The 30+ will be for sale soon. If anyone on here is interested please contact me back channel. I’ll post something on it shortly.

Well done, I can't wait to get a tour @ the next Ericson meetup, which I hope to crash with our new to us Trawler.

Congrats! We made the move from a C&C30 to the 34-2 10 years ago and couldn't be happier !
