New Snow in Portland (Columbia River)

Rick, a friend just sent this over from a cam on his floating home located beside our boat.
Another inch or two of snow fell in the city early this am. Temps in the 20's, and forecast to stay that way until Saturday. A foot plus has fallen in nearby hills, but we are lucky so far. Traffic moving OK, with the odd accident.
Kids love the snow; adults not so much!
:)

Unfortunately, we have more snow here on Vancouver Island in BC with cold temperatures, starting to warm by the weekend. I was sailing only a week ago, but then the storm moved in.

This is the Fraser River, very slightly south of Vancouver. The guys breaking up the ice with the boom boat said you could stand on it.

Bit of a big slushie here today. Hopefully won't freeze solid as it's supposed to get warmer - ish. But if it were to get colder - well that's how we end up with 4-6 inches of ice at our latitude.

Here's another view of the Everett marina on the 31st20211231_125917.jpg

We cleared as much snow as we could with our boots and deck brush. we kept a heater running through the whole event to keep stuff from freezing in the cabin. Unfortunately is wasn't enough to keep the bilge pump outlet from freezing so when I first showed up the pump was just spinning without doing anything. There wasn't much in there, but still enough to lift the float switch. it did get me thinking about adding an additional section hose hose leading to the bilge and switch to the raw water / ice box drain plumbing so I could use the foot pump to empty bilge water into the sink and out the sink drain thru hull located below the waterline. I'm not sure if it's worth it, but it would have been nice to have for this event.

Hmmm.... that's an interesting idea.

Weather has warmed up some, and my friend at the YC just snapped this picture, looking east at Mt Hood in the morning the other day.
Way cool sunrise, IMHO.
No more snow in the city, tho. Temps in the mid 50's lately.
