I' d been planning on having a one-piece plexiglass hatch board made as other have done, but once the local plastic shop in Tacoma closed their doors, I lost interest in the plan. Then, after re-finishing some other teak trim, I had the thought.... it's not that the wood hatch boards are so bad, it's that there are four of them, so they're a handful to remove, gather, and store. Plus, I realized that I'm sitting on $300-400 in teak at today's prices.
From those thoughts came the idea to glue the top & bottom two boards together and put hinges in the middle. I had a left over canvas storage bag that will work to hold the folded unit, once I add a couple of string-ties to it. Maybe someday I'll swap out the hinges for brass or bronze if I can find ones that fit.
