Plastic sole

Has anyone cut out the plastic sole part of the insert on a 36C. The fake wooden sole is glued dow to it and provides no access ?

My guess is that any "plastic' sole material was installed by a prior owner. EY would not have done that and I doubt that the material was in production when the boat was built in the late 70's.
A decision to restore the sole to a 'real' teak and holly surface or to a modern 'very real looking' teak n holly plastic will need to be made after you do get access to your bilges.
Note that whatever you put down for a new sole needs to be secured with fasteners that can be easily removed.

I think this inset was put in befor the-lid.
It just makes impossible scrownge under the floor boards and the water tanks are under there.

Did you find an answer to your question on how to cut out the sole part? I bought a 36c recently. Use to have an Ericson 27 and later a Cheoy Lee. This design has me confused as to how to access the water tanks.

The valves are by the mast but other than that no access. It is 1/4” fake teak and holly glued down and fake little screws for looks.
Teak and holly 1/4” sheet of waterproof not marine grade plywood is $280 Here in Portland. Marine grade in tacoma is in the mid $300’s.
