I am half way through a refit and the teak and holy sole is a bit tired and there was some rotten, so my choice is this

Make good where possible and sand a varnish what’s left

or

remove it and fill the holes paint it and then cover with some soft flooring.

both ways need stripping, preparing and a finish coat of some type.

there is parts of the teak and holy that’s showing gaps, so I’m not sure it it’s beyond saving.

Yours is a 1975 or 1976 E32, correct? The Cabin Sole Master Thread would be a good place to read how other Ericson owners have dealt with cabin sole issues.

It is often helpful to include relevant information in a "signature" which appears at the bottom of posts like mine below. You can create your signature by editing your profile.

Rugs and such have the issue of the bilge access plates. Not saying it wouldn't work. Outdoor carpet trimmed accurately.

Another option is to prep and paint the sole. That's what folks do when house hardwood flooring is too ugly to clear-coat, and judging by our own experience at home, the result can be very pleasing indeed. The sole can be sanded and filled as necessary and even rot removed. The system uses paint and a final protecive transparent coat.

The selection of floor colors is now quite wide, and a buff (tan) , or even a subtle rose or other off-white, might be quite effective.

Sole replacement in teak and holly, as the Master Thread attests, is a big job.
