Replacement winches

Phil Adams

Member I
Has anyone replaced the sheet winches on an E27 and relocated them further aft? I spent quite a few hours on the boat yesterday removing the old Barlow's ready to replace with a pair of Lewmar self tailers and was wondering if anyone has moved them nearer to the wheel position to aid single handing? The port one came out in 20 mins but the starboard one was a real pain!! Looking forward to fitting the new pair but would ideally like to relocate them so I can reach them easier from the helm but wondering how far back to go - any ideas anyone? Thanks.

Regards

I would place them where you can reach them but where it will not be a pain for crew unless you plan on single handing exclusively! Personally I would have left the Barlow's where they are then you could put the self tailers right next to the helm.
