Hi Dave,Steering pedestal replacement
I just received a Merman/Yacht Specialties Pedestal from Anchors and Oars. It's an exact match, the cost was incredibly inexpensive. Anchors and Oars was very responsive as we worked through measurements and options. Our existing pedestal in corroding at the base at all the two of the bolt holes - the damage most likely hidden by paint and bondo prior to the PO taking possession. Happy to have the replacement but not looking forward to the installation. Give Anchors and Oars a try.If you decide to go the repair route, reach out to Anchors and Oars/Sailboat Parts in Grasonville, MD. I've had him ship me several parts to Kansas. Tell him what you're looking for and if he doesn't have it currently, he can keep an eye out from future boats he salvages.

Agree that it should be replaced. In heavy weather, if you needed to very firmly brace yourself on the helm guard, "movement" could put you in a difficult condition without steering.Looks like the base needs to be replaced even though it does not move.
Did you replace the entire base and post ? I bought one from the same place and have yet to figure out how the post is attached to the base, I need to separate them as I couldn't find an exact match for the entire unit.Hi folks
Was able to remove the pedestal and have found a YS replacement
What type of sealant would you recommend for the bottom of the base to prevent water intrusion from the deck?
