I had the same problem on my E-29. I dropped the rudder this spring during haul out, machined a new derlin bushing for the bottom end of the rudder tube and pressed it in. Really worked out great, got rid of all the play and the tiller has a great feel to it now. One note when setting the boat on the hard, make sure it sits high enough off the ground to allow the rudder to drop all the way out. The rudder post on a 29 is pretty long. I think the keel needs to be at least 18" off the ground.
