Upgrade to original 16hp Universal

Hi all, first timer, and new sailor. I have an 84, 30+ at Dana Point in CA. Was in-laws now ours. Looking to upgrade the original 16hp diesel. Any suggestions for size and what something like that should cost? Using ballpark of 1hp/foot thinking gently used 30hp. thoughts?...

anyways 30Hp will be overkill for the 30+, 20hp is even still a bit much I would assume. I have the original M18 (14hp) and get to hull speed most often (cruise around 6kts @ 2400rpm depending on conditions).

keep in mind your boats length determines it’s speed so for a 30ft boat 7 (ish) kts is the fastest she can physically go.

for a re-power I hear double the price of a motor for install. That being said I would expect a motor to be 15 - 30k depending how much work your able to do.
