Upgraded cockpit drains

ky ed

Extreme Adventurer. E27 trailer sailor from Iowa
Starting to gather materials to upgrade cockpit drain system. Received 4 new stainless steel scuppers for cockpits today. Every body says to upsize the drains for e-27. The cheesy plastic ones from factory were quite pathetic. Mine leaked because they were held in place by only one screw in the center of grate. Gasket was hard and even when new poorly sealed the old drains on underside of floor plus the barbed insert was odd ball sized like 7/8 inch. Relied on barbed insert that was sealed with silicone and only room for one hose clamp. Not only that but were routed with low spot asking for trouble during winter lay up. Factory also had them draining with 1 inch flexible spa hose to thru hulls below water line. Terrible setup from get go! Im replacing with 1 1/2" drains and 491 hose for use below water line. The new 1 1/2" hoses are re routed with no low spots and will drain out the transome above water lone with pair of 1 1/2 inch thru hulls. Eliminating 2 holes below water line. I like the new drains, fit like a champ all stainless cnineisium with 3 countersunk #8 machine screws.

Nice looking design. Our boat was built out (late 80's) with Marelon fittings for the same purpose. Still there and performing like new.
We have two at the each rear corner of the cockpit sole that drain out above the DWL.

The lowly E25 excels at nothing over its bigger brethren except for cockpit drainage design:egrin:: It has a small sump molded into the cockpit floor drained by a 1” open hole on the transom. It’s simple, virtually maintenance free, and the hole can easily be enlarged for even faster drainage of spilled beverages.
