vertical cracks on mast at spreader bar monuts

Luffin it

Member I
As I was replacing my spreader boots on our E-27 with Wheel, I notices a small crack in the mast on the aft edge of the mounting plate for the spreader. It looks as if it an inch an quarter long running vertical. What is the fix for this problem? Do you first pre-drill a small hole at each end to make sure the cracks don't continue and then build a splice plate to cover the entire area fore and aft some 6061 Alum .187 thick with radiused edges. Roll form the material so it matched the mast contour. Clean the area where the splice is going to be applied. Us some Hi-Tech glue and then pop rivet the plate on. Has this happen to any one else? And then attact the hardware which was removed.:egrin:
