VHF channels to be renumbered

the MRASS thread sparked a random synapse connection, and it reminded me about another radio-related topic: the government is planning to renumber the marine VHF channels.

Effectively, all the "alpha" channels will get new 4-digit channel numbers

-- 22A will become channel 1022
-- 66A will become channel 1066
etc.

All the non-alpha channels remain unchanged, so channel 16 will still be channel 16.

This shouldn't affect any existing radio gear - the frequencies are unchanged, only the channel number is changing. But expect to see marine VHFs coming out with the new numbering scheme in the next couple of years.
