Water pump rebuild on Volvo Penta MD7A SD

Hello all,

My water pump is going out on my Volvo Penta MD7A SD. I bought a rebuild kit, I am not a mechanic at all, although I’m going to give it a shot.

I understand that most of the Ericson community here do not have Volvo engines, and that they are not preferable, but it is what I have so am embracing it with love. The engine starts right up and runs well.

It was impossible to get to the back of the engine so I cut a new access port in the quarter berth.








Anyone here have experience with this engine and pump? Or any insight or past posts on the forum?

The pump parts look pretty much as expected, but what an unfortunate location for that! I did lots of work on a Volvo years ago and thought it was a pretty well designed unit and easy enough to service.
