I finally got around to replacing all the engine raw water hoses and installing a proper raw water strainer. Previously the raw water strainer was nothing more than a Jabsco inline water filter installed only 6 inches above the seacock, below the waterline, underneath the galley sink and was a real pain to service.
Last winter I had all new seacocks installed on the boat and the new engine intake seacock is 3/4" with inline engine flush valve. This now goes up to the new Vetus 3/4" strainer installed in the engine compartment and above the waterline. I then needed to install a 3/4" to 5/8" hose adapter on the out port as the rest of the boats raw a water system is 5/8" hose. From the strainer the water goes to the engine driven freezer condenser coil (under the galley sink) and then to the engine raw water pump.
While I was at it I installed new 3/8" NPT elbows on the water pump. What I like about the new install is that the new 3/4" hose, large strainer, removal of the additional hose nipples on the raw water pump, should allow the raw water system to move water more easily with less restrictions. I'll find out how all this works in about 10 weeks!
