E26-2 Oil Change and Fuel Filter Replacement - Westerbeke 10 Two

Small project? Yes. Lessons learned? Definitely. Didn't take a a ton of pictures during the change (due to the mess). But took some post-pictures for reference. This was my first time performing either of these tasks.

Starting with the oil change, after warming up the engine, this electric pump from Amazon worked great to pump out all the old oil. I put one tube down the dipstick hole and the other into an empty antifreeze jug to catch the old oil.

Utilizing some outgrown diapers no longer needed by some friends (free!), and a set of oil filter pliers, I removed the engine oil filter with minimal mess. Next time, going to put another diaper below it, more in the 'bilge' area below the engine, as some leaked past down into there. Better tucking could help with this, too.

On to the fuel filters. Randall has a really good video he posted when changing fuel filters on Turtle. I found it quite helpful, though my fuel pump is in a different location and my primary is a different model.

The primary filter/water separator was pretty easy to access and easy to change.

The secondary filter on the fuel pump was one I almost decided to skip because I had trouble with it. The cap on the bottom has to be removed; it's a half-twist to release it. There's a rubber seal that sits in the bottom of the cap that gets replaced, also. For future reference, this should be done while the oil filter is off - would be MUCH easier. I managed to get some pliers in there and slowly rotate the cap off. Again, a diaper or other oil pad below helps contain some of the mess.

I'm glad I didn't skip this one - it was in the worst shape of all.

The final fuel filter was a bit easier than the fuel pump. Just loosen the knurled ring and the whole assembly comes off. There's a filter inside and two o-rings to replace (one is TINY). The angle ensures that fuel will spill all over when removing and replacing. This filter itself was in pretty good shape, so that was encouraging.

Fired everything back up afterwards to check for leaks, and all was good.
