Retired from newspapers and television, currently sailing Thelonious II, a 1984 Ericson 381.

Price hovers around $1500 from Internet suppliers.
The outboard is quiet and light, and easy to mount on a bobbing inflatable because it has three parts. Each can be lowered aboard individually.
With no fluids, the unit can be stowed below on its side, rather than mounted on a stern rail.
The 1003 model is said to be the equivalent of 3 gasoline horsepower. It drives a small inflatable easily, but won't make it plane.
The Torqueedo manufacturer--it's a German product--gives predictions of battery life from eight hours to less than one hour, depending on throttle. A reasonable speed of 2-3 knots provides an endurance of about three hours.
The battery takes a long time to recharge, about 12 hours when flat. An optional , expensive 12v charger is even slower. An optional, expensive fast-charger cuts the recharge to 8 hours. An optional, expensive solar panel is $800. An optional, expensive spare battery is a mere $650.
However, I have heard that owning a Torqueedo may move you up on the Tesla waiting list.
We'll see how it holds up. First impression is good.
