O34 Sail measurements -> mast bend and other details?

Thanks guys. The material is Challenge Newport 7.45 oz. I'm currently getting a 120 headsail, given the good breezes we tend to get in San Pedro / Long Beach, but could be convinced to go a bit bigger if you guys have opinions on that. Its claimed that some roller reefing should be...

O34 Sail measurements -> mast bend and other details?

Thanks Alan and Loren !! Yes, that is me in C 46 (for now, trying to get an upwind slip)! Great to learn of you -- I'll try to find you down there. (on vacation up north for a couple weeks at the moment). Harry O -- yes, I have spoken to Harry and he seems like a good guy, and Mario on my...

O34 Sail measurements -> mast bend and other details?

Hi folks, I'm wondering if any of you O34 owners have any detailed sail measurements that you would be wiling to share? I'm working to refit my (neglected) boat and am getting new sails, but am doing so without the benefit of a local sailmaker for measurements. So I'm working to figure it out...

Icebox/Refrigeration on Ericson Yachts [Master Thread]

Hi folks, I'm Wondering if anyone with an original icebox in one of our Ericson's has done the quantitative insulation test ala Don Casey -- weighing the amount of lost ice after a day or two in the box? And then using that the estimate the daily load when running the fridge? I may try...

Replacing cams with clutches and backing

Hi folks, I'm wondering what line size Lewmar DC2 clutches folks choose for their various sized boats. I have an O34 that I am working to refit with new clutches, and I will be running new running rigging soon, so it is something of an open book. I've read Loren's and Christians' posts...

O34 -- pressure water question and lazarette question

Thanks Loren ! That is very helpful. :) Helps explain the multitude of hoses. I did not notice the fill port for that tank, but there is a hose going in near the top, maybe to a deck fitting, but I thought it was a vent. Still learning the boat. Thanks!

O34 -- pressure water question and lazarette question

Hi folks, I'm making some progress with the new-to-me O34. Got new battery charger in and wired (inboard wall of aft cabin) and got the old rusty cube of a water heater out of the boat with out, and the most violent implement I required was a hacksaw. I also found the leaking pressure...

    Rigging guide O34 and general?

Hi folks, I've done a quick search through but can't find: can anyone point me to any information on standing rig tuning for an O34. I know how to center the mast but would appreciate any advice on recommended tensions for the various members. I did this back when I was young using using...

Olson 34 called "Valhalla II" in San Pedro?

ah ha ! Thanks Loren. Let me ask the Olson-friendly surveyor about that. Maybe some confusion. The keel bolts sure looked factory. That eases my mind some.

Here's another showing the keel. Looks pretty thin.

Olson 34 called "Valhalla II" in San Pedro?

Pic attached. The surveyor recommended just cutting off 3/8 of an inch off the bottom, since he was under the impression that the mast was going to be taken down to ship the boat north. I don't think it is an imminent structural concern. thx

Olson 34 called "Valhalla II" in San Pedro?

Hi folks, I'm still hemming and hawing on the O34. Survey looks pretty good. (Though I gather the surveyor spent a lot of time in Santa Cruz and knew George Olson, so he may be a bit biased.) Superficial blisters and a corroded mast base, and the need for a new prop are the only major...
