Newbie questions about an Ericson 34 for sale

We have a 34-2 from 1989. We love it. One thing, it handles very easily; and I was even told that by a friend who’s a very skilled sailor after he moved it for us once.

    Can't lower Harken furling jib

I had the same issue. Finally, a friend had me hoist him up in a bossun chair and swing him out to the furler where the jam was. With some jiggling, he got it to come down. after removing the sail, I tied a line to the bottom of the (whatever it’s called that raises the jib) , and worked back...

Tips on removing the holding tank and head in 1980 38ft

I was able to vent ours though the former pump out. It took a longer hose and stronger fan, but has worked fine.

Tips on removing the holding tank and head in 1980 38ft

We gave a 34-2 and the tank was in the cockpit lazarette. It was a chore to get at it, but we replaced our system with an AirHead composting toilet and have lots of added storage now. I had to saw the Steele reinforced hose into sections - which was the most difficult part

    Got Design Questions?

I’d be curious about the 36C. Those were beautiful and roomy boats. Why was it discontinued so quickly?

Ericson 34-2 boom height off cockpit sole?

I have a 34-2 and there’s a lot of distance from the cockpit sole to the boom. When we were boat shopping, we had to take into consideration our daughter’s 6’ height. Only if standing on the seat, do I run a risk of vetting hit by a giving boom. We’d like to add a Bimini, but can’t afford it...

    How far is too far?

When we bought our first boat, it was moored in Salem, MA… a 4+ hour drive. We didn’t know how to sail yet, and while we searched for a skipper to help us transport it to Nyack, NY; we made the drive every Friday and stayed onboard til Sunday evening. We’re musicians - so a 4 hour drive meant...

    Anyone use battery-powered "generators?"

We have the Jackery 1000W Solar Generator and one 100W panel. It’s served us well, though their panel isn’t waterproof. We plan to eventually get a better all-weather panel. We can run a microwave, coffee pot, or induction stovetop on it.

Can I remove the blower and hoses?

Thanks. that was what I had been considering as a replacement, but wasn't sure it'd work. Currently, I'm focused on replacing ancient halyards. I'm thinking they're all original equipment - the wires are frayed and the covering is badly deteriorated.

Can I remove the blower and hoses?

My hoses are shredded. I think they used tissue paper to line them. I had been considering finding a better hose. But that’ll have to wait. For now, we have a stretched slinky.

Used Davits Wanted - NYC area

No, unfortunately. Still hope to find some

    Captain Q reviews a 36C

We came so close to buying one of these in 2019; but decided it had too many issues needing TLC that we just weren’t ready to attack. The tour was nice - if it hadn’t needed all the work we saw needed - it’s truly the ultimate boat. I hope someone was able to buy it and do the work. It would’ve...

    Wire or Dyneema on Halyard?

All of our halyards are led aft. The current mail halyard runs to the helm. I plan on lengthening our traveler lines to reach the helm. So many options... Thanks!

    Wire or Dyneema on Halyard?

What is the issue with the Sta-Set lines? Are they not good just as Halyards? Can they work well enough as Sheets? According the the E34-2 manual, it calls for 58’rope/54’wire - so I’ll need 112’ of Dyneema. Or is some of those lengths for the overlap of splicing?

    Wire or Dyneema on Halyard?

I’m not really sure what’s meant by double- braid etc… but I’m pretty much sold on the dynema. Should I use all dynema on the halyards, or splice it to the regular rope as with wire? I plan on replacing all of our lines. The previous owner must’ve bought a spool of line, since they’re all the...
