    Raymarine Rotary Rudder Reference Transducer

The rudder sensors connect directly to the quadrant on a wheel pilot, or to the hydraulic ram that connects to the quadrant for a below deck solution. Wheel pilots are then aware of the rudder's position because of the direct quadrant connection. One attribute that is important is that they...

    AIS/VHF/Plotter question

AIS and DSC I have found are most useful offshore (my sailing grounds are SF Bay). In shore there are too many targets passing within a 1/4 mile of where ever I may be, pretty much fly VFR in the Bay. DSC has been tremendous offshore. Ships at sea seem to rarely respond to calls on Ch 13...

    Tackling the transmission

Very nicely done. Thanks for the paint data. I will use some to touch up the engine.

    Tackling the transmission

John, did your transmission arrive painted bright red ? Makes for a nice contrast with the gold , although I hope to only see it once per year.

    Tackling the transmission

Looks good. I have had the engine out in the past. I had the head rebuilt some years ago, and replaced the oil pan. In my case I used the boom and the mainsheet blocks to hoist the engine out. For the transmission it appeared I had just enough room to wiggle the bell housing plus transmission...

    Tackling the transmission

I have now replaced the Hurth 50 with the TMC 40 (Technodrive) in my Olson 34. This all bolts onto the flywheel of the M25XP. In all the task included a new transmission, new damper plate, new exhaust elbow/mixer (stock from Westerbeke), changing to 2" exhaust hose, modifying the old muffler to...

The transmission is on the way. I found one in N.C. Thanks for your assistance with my questions.

    Tackling the transmission

I have the new damper plate in. The bell housing and transmission reconnected. New exhaust riser installed. Changed exhaust to larger 2" hose to accommodate the Westerbeake stock exhaust riser - a bit of fiber glass work on the old muffler. It all rumbled to life with a slight new tone in the...

    Gluing plastic ladder

You could essentially duplicate the part with fiber glass reinforced plastic cutting 3 pieces. Then bond with a 24 hour epoxy and add an outer layer of FG and epoxy resin. If you use 1/4 in FRP and bond it up with West Systems it will be very strong after curing in a black bag setting in the sun

    Tackling the transmission

    1. Process of getting to the damper: I wanted to mention that getting to the damper requires removing the bell housing, which requires room to slide it back. On many forums I have read about the lack of space and inability to move the prop shaft. One solution is to raise the engine and slide...

    Tackling the transmission

I can only estimate the hours on my engine. I have put about 20,000 miles of sailing on the boat. But, not a bunch of motoring. The original owner was on the Great Lakes and didn't sail much. So maybe at most 400 hours a year X 20 yrs = 8000 to 10000 hours. I have seen a number of damper plate...

    Tackling the transmission

REgarding the damper on the 25XP Universal. I am looking for a spec on torque for the Alan head bolts holding in place. Anyone have that date ? I can't find torque information in the Universal engine manual. Thanks, Brian

    Tackling the transmission

I just got the old damper off my 25XP engine. Shown here is the damage to the splines and the look of a new damper plate (OEM). The springs were not broken. The spline shaft on the transmission looks to be in great shape. The engine is in a 1989 Olson 34 that has seen extensive hours on the...
