How many 1974 Ericson 32 are still out there?

Love that green paint job. We had a 1974 E32 on the Columbia River for many years, with a similar shade of green. You've done a great job with that boat.

    35-3 mast support repair

I did this on our boat when we got it many years ago. A previous owner had done something funky with the mast step (trying to induce extra mast rake I think) that had concentrated loads on the aft portion of the support. It's a "relatively easy" DIY job, but does require the mast to be removed...

    Question about fuel injectors

I don't recall. But I don't think it was anything unusual. For what its worth, making sure the valves were adjusted right made a way bigger difference on our boat than cleaning/servicing the injectors.

    Question about fuel injectors

I took ours out to be professionally serviced/cleaned 10 years ago or so. Not difficult. At the time it was cheaper than buying new ones. Their report showed 2 of them had ok spray patterns, but one was way off - they tuned them all to optimal. But to be honest, I didn't notice much difference...

    Fuel tank in E35-III

My experiences of emptying and cleaning the tank on our boat many years ago is that the spec'd number may be a tad optimistic, but pretty close. There is also a gallon or so below the pick up tube that is unusable.

    Portland to Astoria

For real-time river levels, may I suggest the free app Rivercast (www.RivercastApp.com)? It includes the Vancouver gage, as well as others on the river (as well 10K+ others around the country). Full disclosure: I wrote it. I originally wanted a way to figure when I could safely get over the...

    Portland to Astoria

Downriver by Astoria can get pretty gnarly in the summer afternoons. If you can, you might want to arrive there early before the waves and wind really kick in the first time you go. We do a trip to Astoria with our kids most summers. We try to break the trip down the river into at least 2 days...

    New parts for traveler

This is the route we took about 15 years ago on our 35-3. Harken matched the bend perfectly. The only downside was the track would bind occasionally, but that was rectified by using their "one drop" lubricant on the track. That stuff is magic. When we attached the Harken track, we attached it...

My 3/4" solid marine holly/teak sole going in this week >>>

That looks terrific. I especially like the teak grate in the head. Whenever I get around to this I am definitely stealing that idea. One question though, on my boat at least, there is a single sheet of ply surrounding the mast step. I noticed your mast is still in place. How did you divide up...

    [E35-3] Mast Partners

We poured our own spar-tight as well. As long as you make a really good "dam" underneath (lots of duct tape in our case reinforcing the putty in our case) it shouldn't be a problem. After 13+ years and a few mast unsteppings it is no longer 100% water tight, but it is still pretty good.

Ericson 35-3 Correct prop with Universal 5432 diesel

Are you sure you have a Universal 5432? Our 35-3 has a 5424. The 5432 is 4 cylinders and the 5424 is 3. Otherwise they look really similar. I hadn't heard of Ericson putting 5432s in E35s, but its possible somebody upgraded.

    35-3 Halyards

No. I use a halyard knot not a splice. The line is probably 2x - 3x stronger than it actually needs to be so I don't worry about the strength. Plus as Loren said it makes it easy to swap end-for-end. I ordered my lines a few feet longer than they need to be, so its easy just to cut off a little...

My 3/4" solid marine holly/teak sole going in this week >>>

Awesome job! Keep posting pics! This is on my to-do-list someday. We suffer from "soft sole" next to the nav table because there was no factory cut drainage on our boat in that section of the TAFG. Water had accumulated in there unbeknownst to us and rotted out the plywood from the underside. :(
