    Bilge Pump Switch quandary

bilge pump switch Knowingly letting myself in for the next 100 rants, I advise "DON'T HAVE AN AUTOMATIC SWITCH" 1)It won't keep your boat from sinking. Batteries will die first 2) It will cover up leaks by keeping the bilge water down, untill the leak is large enough to sink the boat, when...

    Very interested in a 1971 E35 ll

E 35 II engine change? Don't forget that you will also have to change strut and cutlass, propellor and shaft, along with (usually) engine beds height, and modify fuel lines for return fuel flow.

    Re- power 1986 35-3

Repower Having once looked into repowering our 84 E 35 -3 which at that time had a Universal 24 horse, our pick would have been the Beta 28 HP. It had a much more servicable configuration and the 4 extra HP and larger alternator would have been just right. We measured for space and it was an...

    Roller Furling on E30+

Furling drum diameter Just bear in mind that the larger the drum diameter, the more leverage you have when furling in heavy winds. Bigger really is better here. And a lot easier.

    Whisker Pole for sale

My buddy wants to sell a Forespar telescoping whisker pole which is too small for his current boat. Diameter 2". It is 7' long in the unextended position and extends fully to 17' max. $200. Not shippable. Must be picked up in Pound Ridge NY (about 30 miles NE of NYC). Ernest Schlesinger...

    1989 E34

E 34 in Haverstraw NY Have you looked at the (I think 85) E 34 in Haverstraw NY? I know it was for sale in January.

only $8,000 to spend on sailboat which one?

Gas(oline) vs. deisel Does everyone realize that about 80% of all power boats (maybe more) are powered by gasoline? They're not exactly blowing up every day. Just an occasional dumb one. But of course even a few diesel owners and quite a number of propane users have managed to set fire to...

    Repower an Ericson 38

Simple way to not burn up water impeller, and maybe engine When putting the boat away and shutting off the seacock for the engine intake, also hang the ignition key on the seacock. Then when searching for the key you'll rember to open the seacock.

    Vee berth mystery.

V berth leak We had a leak that was going down from the nav light wire into the bow rail and from there into the space forward of the the V berth. If you are just pouring water on the deck, you'll miss this one

    Circumnavigator in need...

The water that is coming into the boat from the broken exhaust can be pumped out, but the carbon monoxide that is probably accompaning the water is deadly. You should not operate engine before replacement of exhaust pipe.

    LOUD rattle in 35-3

Do you have a drip free shaft seal? If so, burp it by compressing the rubber and letting all air (and some water) out of the coupling. If there is any little bit of air in it, slowly but surely on a long run under power, the water in the coupling will start to spin with the prop shaft. If...

    Fallen boat

In my humble opinion, your insurance, Boat US pays the full value of the insurance. They go after your yard to get themselves reimbursed. You deal only with Boat US.

    Dinghy Outboards

Dingy Outboards Best place to buy Nissan and Tohatsu outboards is from Portaboat. You can find them on the web. I just bought my second one (this week) from them. They will deliver a Tohatsu 4 cycle, 3 HP long shaft anywhere in the US for about $865. Difficult to beat. Ernie

    Wanted: Help moving Ericson 27

Wanted, help moving 27 Ian- I have made this trip (more than once) from LI Sound to Chessie. If you want to go straight thru (no stops) you will need a crew of 4 to be comfortable. Two on deck each watch at night, and sleep caught up during daylight. After Sandy Hook, there are no inlets I...

    Storage ideas on E35/3

Storage on E 35-3 1. Use the forward ice box for storing dry food boxes, cans and other non refrigerated stuff. 2. Hang netting (small hamocks) from the ends of the interior overhead handrails. You just need a small stainless hook screwed into the outboard(non visible side) at each end...
