I thought contorting and cursing was step 1-5! I had didn’t think I needed to lube up until getting into this project. Figured no packing gland? Ok no maintenance. Oops! Glad I know about it now!

Thanks for the quick reply. Looks like there is a zerk at the top where the tiller attaches, but might be clogged/ looks pretty rusty. Wheel turned fine, no issues. Just felt a little stiff when turning it with the tiller.

Hello, I ended up taking out the helm this weekend! I notice that when operating the tiller it seems a little stiff. I am wondering if I need to grease the shaft or maybe its lubricated with water when in the water? I do not see a packing gland. Any insight? I tried looking up similar postings...

One reason for going back to the original tiller would be to have the option for a tiller pilot 1/3 of the cost of an auto helm. Do you find the tiller pilots to be unreliable? Maybe a 33 ft vs a 27 ft might make a difference in tiler pilot handling? Also played around with sheet to tiller and...

Thanks for the advice. I don’t HATE it but not thrilled with it. I think I’ll go for it. Only hold up is re configuring the throttle/ and shifter controls to the side of cockpit. They are currently in the helm. I don’t see that being too big of a job.
