Is it this?: Westerbeke exhaust elbow

Felicity, I do not recognize the exhaust elbow in your photos. There are many threads in this forum discussing options for exhaust elbows. The two I have most commonly seen are the Yanmar exhaust mixing elbow (pictured in bigd14’s post above) and the Onan 155-1058 part, which Ericson originally...

    Spring?

This style device has worked very well for me as an alternative to a spring. (This link is an example. It is not the one I have. Many similar items are available online.) Chart table hold-up Mike Jacker

    Engine operating temp of 185?

I have no bypass in my 5432’s water heater loop and have no problem with overheating. I use a 180 degree thermostat and sail in Lake Michigan (sailing season water temperatures generally vary between 40 degrees F and 72 degrees F.) Mike Jacker

This is one variety of screw holder that is used for 2.5mm orthopedic screws. It slides over the driver shaft. We simply slip it down and it grabs the screw head.

(I’m retired now.) But to answer your question, each surgical screw driver is designed for one particular size screw head and has a sliding metal clip that engages and holds the head of the screw. There is no universal screw holder.

Here is something I invented over 10 years ago. I patented it … the patent has subsequently expired. I never produced or marketed it, but I have a few samples and often keep one in my pocket. See what you think. Here is a video from 2014: Universal Screw Holder

I believe the elbow is an Onan 155-1058 which may be $150 online. You will need to do some pipe step downs and custom fitting which should be easy at any local plumbing supply business. You simply need to use the old existing system as a model.

Been there, done that with the identical engine and exhaust installation. My advice, replace the flange, riser pipes and mixing elbow with new ones… It’s time with a system this old, and you won’t regret it. More than half the battle is the removal that you have already done. Mike Jacker

Weird raw water pump issue (Universal 40)

Eric, I’ll repeat what I said before along with a suggestion. Sometimes during the first spring start up, my pump will not draw water even if the hose to it is primed with water. Adding PTFE grease is an instant cure that lasts all season for me. If your problem is that the water drains out...

Weird raw water pump issue (Universal 40)

Exactly. If it allows the pump to temporarily work (who knows for how long) at least it will help rule out one possible source of your problem. I have been happy with an Oberdorfer pump.

Weird raw water pump issue (Universal 40)

Eric, Have you tried slathering a little PTFE grease around the impeller blades and face plate? This often solves a problem like that if there is no air leak elsewhere in the system. Mike Jacker

    T-fitting in Raw Water Circuit

If you do clean out your heat exchanger, there are several methods. Some people take it to a shop to be steamed, some boil it in water (I’m not sure how that works), and we followed a mechanic’s advice and soaked ours for a day in a vat of CLR. The CLR worked very well. We repainted it with...
