Yes, the rudder will only make sense to someone local in dire need of a rudder for a 35-2. Or a 33 (I think). It may end up in someone's pile at Shelter Island. Better than throwing it away I suppose.
It's the original version. We just upgraded to the larger one by Foss in CA.
Fun fact: ALL Ericson rudders are Foss rudders. They're the ones who built them while in production, and they're still building rudders today.
Steering back together, zerk installed and greased top and bottom. Big improvement but I wonder about cable tension. Is there a standard? If I had to guess they're too tight.
If it's blowing NW on the day of your trip consider Porlier Pass. It's a bit further south, making the trip a couple miles longer, but you'll have a much smoother ride across. The times for slack will be minutes apart so no need to change any arrival times, although if you're a bit late...
I installed my new Foss rudder this morning. It went well with one minor setback being that the top of the trailing edge is not as close to the hull as the forward one. I'm going to let it be.
The steering is very stiff when checked with the tiller. I don't expect things to improve once the...
It's not supposed to :) Once you resin has cured you pop it off and there's a nice flat spot for the base of your seacock or flange adapter.
However, since my post the other day, this time I plan to use 5mm G10 bedded to the hull.
How about hull thickness? Anybody have a number?
How timely, I'm hauling out in March to do the rudder upgrade and through hulls.
On a previous boat I did the through hull like this:
Lay out seacocks/flange adaptors with handle orientation in mind, mark out and prep surface.
Cut a piece of Starboard ~3/8" larger than the base of...
Here's what I'm dealing with right now. Hopefully it makes sense. The stringer is to the left of the batteries. The middle pic shows the tabbing to the hull and the cutout for the fresh water tank - you can see it bearing right down on it. The last pic shows the other side of the...
When the water tank below the cabin sole began to leak I assumed it was due to age. A search on here confirmed that I may have had the last one still in service.
Now I'm beginning to think that moving the batteries from the cockpit into the port settee may have been the culprit. Their full...
