    AC system and R22

Frank, I know, but starting Jan of this year production is restricted and I guess availability and cost will be impacted. The 417a is supposed to be a drop in replacement and more friendly, so why not.

    Installing ground/bond wires

Story dating back to the '70's. A couple I knew back then, older than I, were experiences sailors and had retired and had bought a larger boat. As I recall, it was a Gulstar, and took delivery of it in Mobile AL. Anyway on the shakedown in the bay, she was hit by lightning; fried everything but...

Deck Non-Skid paint "Grizzly Grip" ...don't waste a nickel

A product I had used on my last boat and had excellent results with was an urethane concrete paint. Lowes sells it in blue gallon can and mix to match, can't think of the brand. It is sort of a flat finish, goes on easy. I sold the boat about 1 1/2 years ago and just saw it yesterday, looks...

    Flag halyard replacement

Even if you use the hooks it is not a bad idea to leave a little extra line and tie the ends together in a continuous loop. If the flag tears, or one end gets away from you, it will save a trip up the mast. Even better is if your cleat has a center hole, run it through there so it stays captive.

Lee Helm on my Olson 34

Simon, Mast rake, as has been mentioned, would be the most obvious starting point to try some adjustment. Sail trim could be a another factor if you are over trimming the headsail and/or under trimming the main. Weight in the bow, think of how the boat sits in the water, would relatively move...

The time has come to part with our beloved Ericson

Appreciate the responses re:S 2; the one I'm looking at is an '81 and had one owner until about a year and a half ago. The current owner is now looking at a 42 to live on. At first look she is in pristine conditon and he just redid electricals and nav systems and added refrigeration. I am...

The time has come to part with our beloved Ericson

Ted, Moving onboard seems to be a trend right now. The S2 that I'm looking at is on the market because the owner is looking at a 42 ?? to live-aboard on.

    Mast shakes violently!

Jeff, I have a 34, and I'm assuming the 35 is a keel stepped mast, check if there are any shim/chocks where the mast passes through the deck. In the old days wooden wedges were used, but a firm rubber would serve well. I would put my money on there being some sort of wedge in there that has...

    Taking pedestal apart, any advice?

It is pretty straightforward; just don't overtighten on the segment that has the throttle and shift controls when you put it back together, that piece is plastic. Also, it is an excellent opportunity to drop small parts down inside the pedestal into the black hole under the cockpit floor. I...

    Spring series Lake Pontchartrain

We had the first race of our Spring series on Saturday; temp was 49, wind was gusting to about 25. Rhynie held her own with a second in fleet(9) and first in class(4). Turnout was low as we were up against the Superbowl and the loyalties of the Who Dat Nation.

    spreader boots

Keep it simple; use a strip cut from a fender and a hoseclamp. I have used this technique on other boats also. works fine. Have not attached a pic before, will see if it works.
