Thanks Pete, my wife had the same thought about heat as a possible cause. Our gelcoat has a lot of spider cracks too. Yeah, 5200. Why would they do that? Permanent bond without a permanent seal….
Looks like my bolts are 5/16” hex heads slid into the bottom of a Harken Hi Beam track and through bolted with washers and lock washers underneath the sea hood. Pretty easy access so far but the track isn’t budging with all the fasteners removed. Given the way the gel coat is already lifting I...
In the past week I’ve noticed for the first time signs of delamination on the sea hood
in front of our traveller rail. As I dig into I wonder if anyone else has experienced the same. Also for those who have replaced their traveller rails (and others) do you recall how much of the sea hood was...
Thanks for all the info @Phr3d! I ordered a shackle from Harken this morning for $39.05 plus shipping. If anyone else needs one it’s part number HCP1508. It doesn’t show up online or in their catalog so you have to call customer service to order one. We haven’t suffered noticeably from the main...
After spending the New Year at Marina Puerto Escondido we cruised south and stopped briefly in La Paz for provisions and fuel. Then it was on to the mainland!
We crossed over to the mainland from Bahia los Muertos to Mazatlan. Our Hydrovane did a great job driving the boat on the reach across...
I’ve been meaning to post a trip update for a while now and between connectivity and things to do / places to see / people to meet haven’t gotten around to it until now. It’s amazing how our days fill up even though we have nothing in particular to do!
Here are some highlights:
The sail south...
Has anyone replaced the shackle on this vintage unit? I‘ve scoured Harken’s site and catalog and can‘t find a replacement part number. It doesnt look like a standard D Shackle because it looks like the pin goes through both sides of it. I’ll call Harken tomorrow but thought I‘d throw up the...
Wonderful video and great to hear your perspective Christian. Thanks for sharing. Best of luck moving on and hope to see you out sailing before too long!
We noticed a fair amount of upwind pumping in the Sea of Cortez chop when we first arrived in November but I had the rig set fairly loose. I increased the tension on the shrouds adding a bit more to the intermediates and lowers relative to the uppers. The rig seems a lot happier now.
I might...
Great looking boat, sorry you have to part with her. We are super happy with our ‘89 38-200 and happy to talk with any prospective buyers who have questions. Let me know.
Quincy is going to miss this summer as she’ll be somewhere in the Sea of Cortez. That said, Chris and I may be able to join in from ashore. Looking forward to hearing how it develops. I think Pt Angeles is a cool thought. Anyone know if it’s been used before? If not why not?
Wow. Words can’t describe coming back to news today and reading about this apocalypse. Glad to hear you and your family are physically OK Christian. When you can, please let us know what we can do to help you and your community.
Here's my previous masthead attachment. I switched to a dyneema topping lift and like Christian said the length is flexible (as long as it’s not too long). I went up the mast and pulled the old one off to get the length side by side with the replacement so I don’t have the exact measurement. I...
