    weird A4 question

Thanks for te MMOtip. De-winterizing this weekend so I'll try it. Just to be clear, dumb question, do you add the oil to the fuel tank ? --Steve

    weird A4 question

Laying A4 up for the winter as usual with raw water cooling intake from a bucket of antifreeze. Running very smooth when . . . piston#4 (furthest aft) stops firing and just clacks. Other 3 cylinders run fine without #4 firing. Anyone encounter this ? Most likely reason and how to firgure out...

    Atomic 4 overheating

Just got my A4 running again, including replacing mechanical fuel pump w electric. (but I'm not sure that was the right thing to do, v. rebuilding/re-installing the mechanical pump, which was leaking). The A4 runs nicely except when it doesn't. Still considering an OB (Suzuki w electric...

    E35-2 scupper drain plumbing

Thanks. Thats encouraging. Did you do the work yourself or engage a yard? I'm a bit nervous about drilling through the hull on my own.

    E35-2 scupper drain plumbing

I'm again looking at re-directing the cockpit scuppers to drain out the stern instead of through the bilge. Looks like there is (just) enough fall for a hose from the scupper(s) to exit though bottom of the stern overhang above the water line - aft and above the rudder. I posted a thread on...

    Intake Trickle from A4

also: as you face aft on the port side of the engine is a small plate that covers access to the water cooling jacket. It's about mid way back - 2inch-by 4inch or so. If it is rusted through, water leaks out. You also may have trouble with the engine temperature due to insufficient flow...

***Converting 32-2 from Diesel to ALL ELECTRIC?***

re genset charges battery hybrid. I cannot find reliable information on how fast the batteries can actually be re-charged. As far as I can tell charging faster than manufacturer rating will reduce battery life. Maybe that not so bad. I don't need 3000 re-charges. Maybe a few hundred. If...

    electric pod for E35-2 ?

David, this is great feedback ! I will look at the ePropulsion alternative. I'd probably go with the 6kW. Did you do the hole cutting yourself or did you engage a yard ? I'm kind of nervous about making holes in the hull. Love the E31. Hope you are enjoying it.

    electric pod for E35-2 ?

Talked w the Toqeedo folks at the Annapolis Boat Show. Thinking of bolting on one of these to replace working but aging A4. Calling around to yards in Annapolis area. Haven't yet found someone who has done it. Any suggestions ? Seems pretty straightforward (might need a backing plate)...

    Possible Scupper Design Flaw

Geoff, I misunderstood your question. I believe draining the cockpit below the water line is a generally bad practice. As you point out that turns the cockpit into a bathtub when seacocks are closed I usually leave them open except I think its safer to keep them closed if wintering in the...

E32 engine swap Atomic 4 to diesel (Marina Del Rey)

I'm pretty close to replacing my running but cranky A4 with electric. The new generation of e pods available from several companies looks easy to install. --Steve

    Atomic 4 Died. What next?

Great ! I've brought my A4 back from the dead twice. Including replacing the head as you have done. Its a tough little beastie. Nevertheless, though not yet fully committed, I'm leaning towards tackling an electric re-power DIY. Still working through cost, engineering, and scope. (e.g...
