Good points. I should have mentioned that all of my 4 panels will be mounted together on the solar arch. I don't expect much partial shading in general, should be fully in sun or fully shaded.
Thanks for the input. Yeah it's a 12V system but a single panel can put out 28v.
My thinking in doing the 2S2P vs 4 panels in parallel in is that:
the higher voltage (56V vs 28V) in the cable run to the charge controller is more efficient
I'm still 1/2 covered by shading drops (vs doing a 4s...
Hello, I'm about to upgrade my solar/battery system from a couple old panels and batteries to 800watts of 4 bifacial panels and 560ah in 2 lithium batteries. I'm just hoping to double-check my basic wiring plans here to make sure I'm not way off on some parameter.
The panel stats:
Max Power...
Thanks for the info. I ordered the flange and am planning on getting black iron for the other pieces, and a new stainless elbow. I don't have a vise here, and might as well just put in all new parts at this point.
The exhaust flange has been a hard part to find, but I think this is it: https://www.catalinadirect.com/shop-by-boat/catalina-38/engine/exhaust-system/engine-exhaust-flange-rectangular/
If it want to replace my elbow, I need to replace everything back to the flange because it's all fused together.
I’ve finished the project, and the boat no longer overheats. The water injection part of the elbow was totally plugged. I’ll eventually replace the elbow and the related couplings, but good to know the system very well now.
A few notes for future googlers:
There had been some limited sea water...
Thanks for the tips everyone. I've bought some gasket material and will give it a try to cut my own.
One thing I'm just curious about on my exhaust elbow - the raw water injection point is on the forward (engine-side) of the elbow, but I'd expect it to be on the other side of the elbow so the...
Thanks for the reply, yeah my elbow seems in decent shape, just needs a cleaning. I was thinking a spare would be good as I've seen people post about needing a new elbow when they're out in the middle of nowhere, but maybe it's very unlikely to fail. I agree that the exhaust elbows can be...
I've been working on engine overheating issues due to low raw water flow in a 1980 38ft with the universal 5432. I've already cleaned the heat exchanger, replaced hoses and flushed the system with barnacle buster. Last piece in the system is the exhaust elbow.

Finally got that...
