The trick is to twist the wires in a kind of double corkscrew. Shown on the left. Then flux and flow. Shown on right. Makes a nice strong union.

*Optionally, curse a blue streak when you realize forgot to put the heat shrink tubes on first.

Live free or die hard
When possible I prefer to solder my connections. I can never seem to be able to crimp those marine connectors without ruining the heat shrink.

Check your crimper. It may be the wrong type for the heat shrink terminals.
