The water pump on my M-18 engine has a metal backing plate behind the impeller and a paper gasket between the backing plate and the pump body. Does that gasket need some sort of sealant applied to it? If so, what type? (Same question regarding the thermostat gasket.)
The reason I ask is I...
I'll be ordering a new exhaust bracket gasket for my Universal 25x engine. Do you have to put some kind of permatex gasket sealear on a new gasket on a hot exhaust system?
On my '84 E-28 I have a Perko raw water strainer, model 493. I'm replacing the gaskets. The gaskets I'm removing are cork.
Checked the Perko catalog. They indicate use ONLY cork gaskets on "older style" strainers and use ONLY rubber gaskets on "newer style" strainers. However, they don't tell...
I had Wefco Rubber make me some gasket material for the fixedlights in my 1988 E38-200 --these are the long Lewmar windows. The material is rubber so is suitable for use with the acrylic window material -- vinyl will cause the window to eventually craze.

The U-shaped gasket that sits around the glass in the frame of most 1970s vintage Ericsons is available - I had it tooled from mine.
The small frames use 2'6" each, the large use 5' each.
It costs $1.50/ft.
