I have a 1978 E29 and for some reason the two stanchion posts by the entry points on both sides have wooden blocks under them, where as all the other ones have the fibreglass moulded directly to fit.

I have been of a mind for some time now to re-bed my lifeline stanchions. In planning the job, I see that several of them have nuts that are inaccessible on the interior of the boat due to cabinetry, such as the galley cabinets.
