bottom paint over... bottom paint??

up here in alaska there seems to be very minimal growth
on my bottom- wondering about just a touch-up paint before
i put her back in the water this season (which would be a whole
lot easier to do, on the trailer, w/o having to pay for a haul out
just for this)-

any reason i can't just buff off the thin layer of 'green'
here and there and touch up where she needs it, right
over the old paint??

No reason you can't as long as you use an ablative (soft) type paint. You can put soft over soft or hard, and hard over hard, but you can't put hard over soft. I think that's the rule. You want to scrub or blast off the loose paint before recoating though. (pressure washer or stiff brush)

When I had my boat in Homer I'd haul and paint every other year. I would dive and clean the bottom (brush) and replace zincs in the spring of the year that it remained in the water. On the occasions that I'd haul it out of the water for the winter, it was a matter of wetting the hull and then using a brush to knock off any remaining growth. If paint was in good shape, I would put a coat on the leading edges of the bow, keel and rudder then splash and go.
Is "Orions Car" an E30+ still in the Homer Harbor? I had a lot of fun with that boat.

hey gary, thanks for the tips- will keep my eyes open for 'orion's car'-
but don't know of any E-30's offhand- i'm new to this, just bought, and
tought myself the basics, last summer- will check with ye old yacht club
salts- now there's a group of characters for you!

homer is a really great place to sail/learn- i'm having a gas! where
are you based these days?
