Well, all my hard work and study has paid off and you are talking to Catalina Island's newest naturalist, leading tours into the interior of the island offering interpretation of history, geology, and the flora and fauna of Santa Catalina Island. Now instead of coming up with the funds to go to the island to study the plants and animals independently, I am being paid to do so. From my perspective it's a permanent paid vacation. And having been a gondolier for 25 years I have no problem with opening my mouth and singing" I found my love in Avalon" among other songs that were sung to the visitors to the island. My captive audience has no idea how to take it in a world where singing happy birthday is a trial. But their applause reminds me of my glory days as a gondolier. Whatever sadness the last few years have brought me, joy has arrived to make the balance. I had to tell somebody.
