I've written before about various boat names I had considered. It never occurred to me that life events could drive such a change, instead of a whim. So the vessel "Roxanne" will re-christened "Beth Ann" after my sister who passed away at home on Saturday at noon, surrounded by family. She was 58 and fought a spirited battle against bone cancer. She was one of those very rare people that everyone who met her, loved her. Losing your big sister, and protector in childhood, and beyond, is like dropping your compass in the middle of the Pacific in the fog. But at least wherever I sail, I will always be reminded of her.
