Chips (ahoy)!

Chips in fiberglass

I have a 1983 E28+ that has a few very small places, mainly in and around the cockpit, where the fiberglass has been chipped away or been rather heavily scratched. The worst places are still less than about the diameter of a dime. If this were drywall I could fill the holes with Spackle, let them dry, do some sanding and with some paint things would be as good as new. Can someone tell me the equivalent materials and process to use to fix these dings in my topsides? Thanks in advance.

Filling holes

Filling holes on a boat is quite similar, except we use epoxy instead. I have had a lot of success with the West System epoxy and then the approrpiate filler. Usually I think it is a silica base, but best to check their website (www.westsystem.com). The site has a lot of handy information about which of their products is best, depending on its use. You can also add pigment and make it match more closely than just being clear epoxy. After you are done, just sand it down.
