Apparently those statues originally had eyes, too, but the wood they were made of wasn't as durable as the stone.

Reminds me of the woodwork on our fiberglass boats.

What a great destination Rapa Nui would be! Heckuva slog to get there, though.

If they really are digging up those moai, what will they do if one of them gets up and starts walkin around?

Er... didn't they do that in that Thor Heyerdahl expedition back in the 50's? I used to have that book somewhere (Aku Aku?), along with Kon Tiki and Fatu Hiva.

Fatu Hiva gave him the history, Kon Tiki taught him to sail. Aku Aku was his first Easter Island Archaeology. Ister island , the Secret revealed was late 80's
For a Botonest He sure
did everything else.
