E30 Displacement vs E28

rpm

Member II
Why does the E30 weigh over 1000 pounds more than my E28. Obviously I need to stop saying they are similar. Just would like to know why. Surprised two feet of length make that much difference.

That's a good question, but it's usually not just the difference in length, but that often entails a bit more beam, larger engine, larger table, maybe an extra optional water tank, taller mast, etc.
My first boat was 22 feet and displaced 1700 lbs., my second was only a foot longer at 23 feet, but displaced 3,500 lbs. The latter was beamier, tall rig, more solid construction, etc.
A careful comparison of all aspects of the E28 and E30+ would likely reveal the key differences that account for the difference in displacement.
Be aware that many boats don't actually weigh what the manufacturer indicates as the displacement, and the variation can be significant.
