Ericson survives tsunami

Last week I e-mailed George Foose, who has an Ericson 38 in Phuket, Thailand, to see how he and his boat (Free Wind) fared. Here is his reply:

The Phuket Boat Lagoon is on the protected east coast of the island and up a tidal estuary. All boats survived. No damage there. The tide was about 2 meters higher than normal in the marina and it was lucky the finger piers didn't lift right off the pylons.

Two weeks ago I went out to one of my favorite NE Monsoon anchorages. There were desk top size pieces of the blown away side walls of the small resort attached under Free Wind at anchorage 200 meters from the beach. Awesome power even on the way out.

This beach had an 18 inch base of sand like flour. Its been scalped off. The other picture shows two large coral boulders that were never there before.
