Yesterday right after setting the anchor I noticed that the shift lever screw on our E34 was a little loose. When I tried to turn it a little by hand, the whole lever came off in my hand as the screw had severed !

I fetched my vise grips and after a little fine adjustment I found that they worked very well as a substitute shift lever.

I have bolt extracting tools so it should be an easy fix.

Now I'll never leave the dock without those vise grips.

Neal, do you have any idea why this happened--it seems like an odd place for the screw/bolt to corrode, and it shouldn't be under that much pressure if it's just holding the lever on...Sometimes I think there are just too many areas to check on a boat to be proactive!!
Thanks,
Frank.
