Goodbye Navtec?

So my “new boat” is a 32-3, masthead rig, with failing hydraulic backstay tensioner. Me be a cruiser, not racer. Bending the mast is not part of my repertoire. Also, I wonder how one could actually bend the mast with the head stay/roller furling resisting? Planning to remove Navtec and replace with turnbuckle and extension so I can get (and keep) desired tension on rigging. Am I missing something (other than the joys of racing)?

We're having a very similar discussion over here: https://ericsonyachts.org/ie/threads/back-stay-tensioner-why-mast-head-rig.22013/

Have a look and see if any of that helps. (mostly pointing you there because I'm too lazy to type it up again... sorry)

But to your specific question, no reason you couldn't remove it and put in a turnbuckle or manual adjuster to find a good setting and leave it. The hydraulic adjuster is primarily another sail trim tool and not everyone wants to mess with it.
