Kiwiprop

I did a search on this and found that there were a few people who had these. The threads that were a couple years old and was wondering how they are currently working out. I visited with the rep for a while at Sail Expo and was impressed (mostly with the price). I'm not sure about diving the boat regularly to lube it, and plastic blades are a little worrisome. Any feedback from the group about experience with these, yours or others would be helpful in making a decision.

I put one on my E29 back in Feb. previous prop was a fixed 3 blade. Makes a world of difference sailing. I like that the blades can adjust to the flow individually. Manual says that the grease will last haulout to haulout, we will see. With the advances in composite materials, I am not too worried about the "plastic" blades.

I am really, really, really, tempted to go with a Kiwiprop myself. Price aside, it just looks like a good design. I still feel like I am taking a chance though. A three blade Maxprop, etc. is very spendy but quite proven. I have heard that the Kiwi is prone to fouling, the composite is apparently attractive to growth critters. I have also heard that Propspeed product is THE answer to this problem. Its not cheap either. I've also considered the Slipstream II folder as it is "supposed" to have great reverse, better forward than a fixed and very little drag. Still a two blade as well. If I spend the cash I would really like a three blade for smoothness and better motoring. Its a tough call either way. RT
