Lazy jacks

Monday I am taking down the mast on an E-333 to get through a canal. I have never played with a mast with lazy jacks, and haven't quite figured out yet how I am going to deal with them.

They start with a spliced eye in a riveted pad eye on the boom so the line will stay on the boom. Obviously, I can pull the line out of the blocks above, but then I will have to climb to re-reeve, which I would like to avoid if I can as I will be re-stepping on the fly.

Anyone have experience that would be useful?

My lazy jacks (Guy Stevens' design) can be lowered so there would be no need to climb to re-reeve. Do yours have that feature?

Or, could you run a messenger line that isn't attached to the boom?
