After yesterday's wind storm, I don't have to worry about drilling a hole in my rain gauge. I think my rain gauge now resides somewhere in Vancouver, B.C! Dave Cahill, Bellingham, WA
I was flying into PDX yesterday afternoon on a small twin engine plane. Roughest flight I have ever experienced. In between getting my head slammed into the ceiling I managed to look out the window on final approach and I was astounded to see someone was sailing on the Columbia with full main and jib flying. About 5 minutes after landing a huge squall line roared through. We got lucky. I hope they were ready 'cause it was UGLY. They were definitely not hibernating but I bet they wished they had been!
Yeah, we are checking the weather/marine forecasts regularly, just waiting for a weather window to get out for a few days sailing trip (Vancouver Island, Strait of Georgia, Gulf Islands). We're not hibernating, just biding our time. I have been out several times in recent months for a singlehanded daysail and once for 3 days away, but it's been a bit too cold for my wife/first mate. Spring will start soon!
When I lived closer to the salish sea, we were out there every month of the year. Usually diving somewhere along the way too. Of course, it helps to have a snug heated salon and pilot house. ...I need to find more friends with boats like that.
(I may be getting too old to be out in the cockpit, in the snow, trying to squeeze into a wetsuit before something freezes off.)
Anyway, yesterday was a great day in the gorge. I saw several boats out on the river. Sadly, I've get several weeks of work to do "on the hard" still before we can re-splash.
