Old barometer repair?

Hi,

did anyone try to repair an old aneroid barometer? I inherited one from the PO together with the rest of the stuff on our boat. It's manufactured by Jason Empire. I would replace it, but the clock that comes as a pair for it still works fine, so it would be a pity to through it away... Any clues about spare parts, repair shops, etc would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Stan

Hi Stan,

You might try a clock repair shop or an aviation instrument repair shop. If there is a problem with the aneroid capsule an aviation shop would be better equipped to repair and test it. Any specs you could supply would probably help.

I have a feeling at today's labor rates it'll be pretty expensive.

Good luck.

I had a clock repaired at Captains Nautical Supplies in Seattle it is also part of a set. They had a pretty extensive repair setup, might call them 206-283-7242.

Have you considered using an Altimeter instead of a barometer?

They are very neat because you simply set the altimeter to zero and read the pressure. No tapping or guessing. You can get used, no longer airworthy examples for a song....
I have used these for offshore sailing for years and love them!
Good luck
