Portuguese Orcas "punctual aversive incident"

Teranodon

Member III
Orcas are a fairly common sight here in the San Juans. I would guess that I see them on about a third of my outings. Alas, they are almost always accompanied by a whole fleet of gawkers who routinely violate the distance restrictions. That's why it was such pleasure to encounter a trio of them five days ago, off Prevost Island in the Canadian Gulf Islands. Ours was the only boat in sight. I turned off the engine and the depthsounder (apparently it and the whales both operate at 20kHz). We drifted in the same direction for a half hour. It was heaven.

This is my screensaver, taken off the Channel Islands (Ventura County, CA). Forum experts agree it's probably an Orca. We don't have many.
