Removing Storage Pan Liners

I'm sure many here are familiar with Randall's tour of his (former) E26, Turtle. One of the things he mentioned was cutting out the anchor locker and storage locker pan liners to gain more space.

Has anyone else done this? Any downsides/regrets? If it doesn't affect structural integrity, I think I would welcome the extra space so I can stash some extra things that I want to keep on the boat out of the way. Plus, it only costs time.

Yes, I have done this on the30+. Advantages include no more leaks into the boat from the pan or the flimsy pan drain hose, deeper chain locker, etc. I haven't found any disadvantages yet. Actually I did have to drill another hole in the stem to drain the now deeper anchor locker (I could have built up a floor to the level of the original I suppose). The little step at the aft end of the anchor well is very convenient put your feet on when hauling up the anchor. I had to cut the flange of the drain pan and leave it in place so the cover would fit properly, but I am sure there are other ways to accomplish that. Go for it!

Edit: pan removal also allows you to access the bolts under the cleats and pulpit. Add backing plates!

Excellent! The 30+ probably has a bit more storage inside than the 26, so I'm curious if there would be any downsides to doing it to the lockers under the settees and in the v-berth?

The only downside I can think of to removing the liner under the settee is that water from the bilge can get in there when the boat heels over. My liner on the port settee was removed at sometime in the past. I store items there that I don't mind being exposed to occasional water, such as gallon bottles of drinking water.

Ah-ha. That might cause me to reconsider. My knowledge of my boat is still all very theoretical not having sailed it, yet. Thanks, Alan.

This is a key thing to do.
I didn't think of doing this, so I had to build that lip back up again to make the lid fit snugly.
