Splice for anchor bride ?

Sven

Seglare
Bridle ... bridle ! Arghhhh.

This is similar to the jib sheet question earlier, but I suspect the answer will be different.

What is the preferred way of creating an anchor bridle, specifically the eyelet and the two legs of the bridle ?

I'll probably go and ask on the Toss forum too but thought I'd ask here first.

I've been waiting for some elegant solutions to your question, but none seem to be forthcoming. I do remember an article in Good Old Boat possibly relating to this subject. That article prompted me to purchase a couple of those big carabiners mentioned, but I've never pursued the bridle with them, so don't have much to offer. See:

Thanks Walter.

We ended up taking two 20' 3-strand dock lines. We did a regular eye splice around a galvanized thimble inserted in a chain hook. It was regular except we probably buried it 10-12 times. Then we did a simple splice of the second line into the first one a couple of feet from the first splice and buried it too 10-12 times. We did it so that both lines have an eye splice for the deck cleats an equal distance from the chain hook, probably 18' or so. Finally we seized the splices.

We'll see how it works out "in real life" :egrin:
