Trying to understand my Ericson's Hull I.D.

Is this the correct breakdown of my Hull I.D. ?
ERY 35199 M85 A

Ericson Serial # 35199 "M"=Model year 1985 August

Interesting because according to Federal Law, boats built after August 1, 1984 had a different 12 character identifier. Perhaps the bare hull itself was built a year earlier and the finished product was put on the market a year later?

Kinda confusing because boats built between November 1, 1972 and July 31, 1984 had a manufacturers identification code (MIC) like my 1985 Ericson?

Maybe there was a Grace Period for the Hull Identification Number (HIN) changeover?

As I understand it before PSC, Ericson was using an alpha at the end that tied to month; but was a=jan, b=feb, c=mar, etc. So your boat would have been January of the 1984 model year.

Sean: Could it be January of the 1985 model year?

I'll be adding an bunch of documents to the archives involving HINs and what I've learned regarding them once we complete this Certificate or Origin issue with the chamber. The lawyer is looking at our first draft now and it'll go back and forth, but eventually we'll get to the bottom of it, and hopefully have some documents that answer typical questions people have about their HINs.
