unstepping Ericson 25+ mast?

I'm about to finally take care of replacing the compression block between the keel and the cabin sole of my Ericson 25+ (no swing keel). I think that the core under the mast step is not in good condition, and I was thinking if it's feasible to unstep the mast at the marina, with the boat in the water., the mast has a hinged tabernacle, so I assume it was made to unstep by hand, but always nice to read other people's experiences first

Have you looked at file section on this sight. I think you want to check out E 25 rigging. Do you have any extra stuff on stays as in rigging diagram? Also search for e-25 turtle raising mast. on youtube

I have no expierence with stepping or dropping mast on an ericson. I do have experience with ODay 25 which is almost as big. It had a mast hinge from Dwyer. I will try to post ODay 25 rigging details. What is important is that the hinge pin and the pivot point of main stay are all in line. That way guys to stabilize boom end are consistently snug during rotation of mast. ODay had triangle delta plates on main stay. The 3rd hole in delta plates were attachment points for guys to boom end. I would recommend the Marina drops mast for you now and you work on your system over tbe winter. Do you have crutches to lay mast on? Im working on crutches for my set up right now. Attach a picture of your hinge at mast base. Ill attach ODay righing diagram. Where are you located? I am near Omaha.

There are pictures and a video on this site for mast stepping an E25. I am not sure how different if at all a mast step and the process is for an E25+, but those resources should be a good start. I should add, the first think you should figure out is does the mast go forward to lower, or backward to lower? My E25 goes forward to lower.

@gargrag - Have you seen the recent post:

It includes some details about 'hinged' rigging that I'd never heard of. (though my awareness of a technology is not necessarily a good metric regarding its novelty)
Did you check out post i put up? The delta plates acting as the "hinge" on cap shroud at same height as mast hinge pin is used al to stabilize boom as a gin pole.
